PTA prices are fluctuating near the 6,000 CNY/ton threshold. On July 28, 2026, public industry data showed the PTA benchmark price at 5,997.16 CNY/ton, up 2.99% from the beginning of the month but down 2.81% from the previous day. This price sits in the mid-to-high range over the past year, nearly 1,000 CNY below the year's peak but over 1,600 CNY above the trough.
For the chemical fiber supply chain, this 'mid-to-high stalemate' in PTA prices indicates an intensifying tug-of-war between upstream cost pass-through and downstream profit compression. For polyester plants and weaving mills, this is not a simple signal of price increase or decrease but a juncture requiring reassessment of procurement rhythm and inventory cycles.
Price Position and Fluctuation Range
Over a one-year period, PTA prices have ranged from 4,363.25 CNY/ton to 6,932.90 CNY/ton, with a median of 5,648.08 CNY/ton. The current price of 5,997.16 CNY/ton is about 6.2% above the median, placing it in the upper mid-range. The asymmetry between the top-side gap (-935.74 CNY/ton) and bottom-side gap (1,633.91 CNY/ton) suggests stronger resistance to upward breakout than support for downward correction.
What does this mean? Technically, a new equilibrium band has formed between 5,800-6,200 CNY/ton. Upstream PX supply, downstream polyester operating rates, and crude oil price fluctuations will be key variables to break this balance. For enterprises relying on PTA as raw material for polyester filament and staple fiber, the current price offers neither a bargain opportunity nor a safe margin for chasing highs.
Upstream-Downstream Transmission and Industrial Belt Reactions
As a core intermediate in the polyester chain, PTA price fluctuations quickly transmit to downstream polyester fabric and garment processing. Enterprises in textile hubs like Keqiao and Shengze report that polyester product quotes have followed the upward trend, but end-order price acceptance remains limited. This 'cost-push, demand-drag' scenario further squeezes profit margins for weaving mills.
From an inventory cycle perspective, PTA social inventory is at a moderately low level, but raw material inventories at downstream polyester plants have accumulated. If terminal consumption fails to materialize effectively during the autumn peak season, the chain may face a phase mismatch between upstream price support and downstream destocking. Foreign trade enterprises need to pay particular attention to the linkage between exchange rate fluctuations and overseas orders.
