Pingdingshan, China's Nylon City, is closing the most critical gap in its industrial innovation chain. The Pingdingshan High-tech Zone Authority, the Henan Academy of Sciences Pingdingshan Industrial Technology Research Institute, Zhengzhou University, and Pingdingshan Shenying Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. recently signed an agreement to jointly build a pilot base for fine chemicals and new materials. This move creates a local platform to bridge the 'valley of death' between lab-scale experiments and industrial mass production.
Background
As the intelligent supporting zone of China's Nylon City, the Pingdingshan High-tech Zone already boasts a complete nylon chemical industry base. However, a significant gap has long existed in the technology transfer chain—mature formulas and processes from labs lacked professional pilot-scale venues for scale-up verification and safety assessment. The new four-party pilot base is designed to fill this void. The Henan Academy of Sciences will coordinate R&D efforts in fine chemicals and functional new materials, continuously supplying mature lab-scale technologies and ongoing projects to the base. Shenying Chemical, leveraging its years of experience in local fine chemicals with production carriers, industrial scenarios, and market channels, will serve as the core builder and operator. Zhengzhou University adds cutting-edge research support and talent reserves.
Industry Impact
For Pingdingshan's nylon chemical industry, the pilot base means significantly improved technology transfer efficiency. Previously, local companies seeking to industrialize a lab technology often had to travel to distant locations for pilot platforms, incurring long timelines, high costs, and technology secrecy risks. Now, the base focuses on fine chemicals, nylon new materials, and green chemicals, offering public pilot services such as scale-up, safety verification, performance testing, and process optimization. This will directly shorten the cycle from R&D to industrialization. For upstream raw material suppliers and downstream product processors, it lowers the threshold for technology upgrades and accelerates new product market entry. From a broader perspective, the base will also facilitate technical renovations and product upgrades among park-linked companies, strengthening Pingdingshan's competitive edge in the national nylon and chemical new materials sector.
