The price of viscose staple fiber has climbed from a low of 12,800 RMB/ton to 14,200 RMB/ton over the past year, an increase of nearly 8%. Throughout the year, the price has remained above the annual average of 13,290 RMB/ton, and the current level marks the year's peak. Yet no clear correction signal has emerged—what does this mean? For downstream spinners, fabric buyers, and even end brands, this high-level consolidation represents both a cost burden and a window to lock in margins.

What the Price Data Tells Us

According to industry public data, during the statistical cycle from July 2025 to July 2026, the annual price range for viscose staple fiber 1.2D was 12,800 to 14,200 RMB/ton, with a median of 13,500 RMB/ton. The current price of 14,200 RMB/ton is at the year's high, flat compared to the beginning of the year, but 1,400 RMB/ton above the annual low, representing an increase of approximately 10.9%. The daily change is zero, indicating short-term supply-demand balance without sudden catalysts.

The current price is about 6.8% above the annual average of 13,290 RMB/ton and has been trading above the average for several consecutive days. This high-level consolidation typically occurs under two scenarios: strong upstream raw material cost support, or rigid downstream demand even without a surge. Based on recent capacity utilization data in the viscose staple fiber industry, the latter is more likely—spinning mills maintain stable operations but have not engaged in large-scale restocking.

Cost Transmission Across Industrial Clusters

Major consumption regions for viscose staple fiber include Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shandong provinces. Clusters like Shengze and Keqiao primarily use this fiber in rayon yarn and blended fabric processing. At current high prices, raw material procurement costs for spinning mills in these areas have risen by about 8% year-over-year, directly compressing yarn profit margins.

From an inventory cycle perspective, the price recovery from 12,800 to 14,200 RMB/ton unfolded in three phases:
- Phase 1 (H2 2025): Prices moderately rebounded from the bottom, improving market sentiment and prompting traders to restock.
- Phase 2 (early to mid 2026): Prices accelerated above 14,000 RMB/ton, forcing downstream buyers to accept higher costs.
- Phase 3 (current): Prices consolidate around 14,200 RMB/ton, with buyers and sellers in a standoff.

For foreign trade enterprises, high viscose staple fiber prices mean export quotes must adjust accordingly. Given that raw materials account for 60%-70% of rayon yarn costs, sustained high prices will make it difficult to lower export quotes, potentially affecting order competitiveness.

Peak Price and Outlook

The current price has hit the annual maximum of 14,200 RMB/ton, and the three-year overbought indicator has entered a warning zone. Historically, when viscose staple fiber prices reach such highs, two paths emerge: either a breakout above the level, contingent on tightening dissolving pulp supply or stronger-than-expected demand; or a pullback, often triggered by off-season demand weakness or a widening price advantage for substitutes like polyester staple fiber.

On the supply side, major domestic viscose staple fiber producers are operating at around 80% capacity, with no large-scale cuts or expansions. Dissolving pulp prices have remained stable recently, with no sharp cost fluctuations. On the demand side, the traditional off-season (July-August) in textiles may dampen demand, but autumn order replenishment could provide support from September onward.

Overall, prices are likely to oscillate in the 14,000-14,500 RMB/ton range in the near term. A breakout above the high requires a clear catalyst, while a sharp decline appears unlikely.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - At current high prices, purchase on an as-needed basis, shorten procurement cycles to 15-20 days, and avoid building inventory to mitigate correction risks. - Monitor dissolving pulp prices and the price gap with polyester staple fiber. If the gap widens to over 2,000 RMB/ton in favor of polyester, consider adjusting blend ratios. - Negotiate short-term price lock agreements with suppliers to secure raw material costs for the next 1-2 months.

For Foreign Trade Enterprises - Include raw material price fluctuation clauses in export quotes, with clear adjustment mechanisms to avoid losses from viscose staple fiber price changes. - Track viscose staple fiber prices in Southeast Asia. If the price differential widens, consider importing from Vietnam or India to hedge costs. - For long-term orders, use forward contracts to lock in raw material costs and negotiate with customers to share part of the cost increase.
