6200 RMB per ton—this is Hengli Petrochemical's August PTA pre-collection price, approximately 5.3% higher than the current market price. This gap deserves more attention than the raw number suggests. It signals that upstream leaders are actively setting a price floor, while downstream polyester filament producers will face significant cost pressure.
Industrial Impact: The Chain and Rhythm of Cost Transmission
PTA is the core raw material for polyester FDY, POY, and DTY, and its price fluctuations directly determine production costs for chemical fiber enterprises. As one of the largest PTA producers in China, Hengli's high pre-collection price essentially sends a clear price-support signal to the market. For the PTA spot market, this price anchor will push spot prices closer to the pre-collection level, providing strong short-term support.
From the futures side, the main PTA contract 2609 on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange closed at 5890 RMB/ton on July 22, leaving a 310 RMB/ton upside to the pre-collection price. Open interest increased by 19,934 lots that day, indicating significant bullish sentiment. This data suggests that market expectations for PTA price increases have already formed, with capital positioning in advance.
For downstream polyester filament enterprises, cost transmission is almost simultaneous. Rising PTA prices will directly increase production costs for FDY, POY, and DTY. According to industry experience, every 100 RMB/ton increase in PTA raises polyester filament costs by approximately 80-90 RMB/ton. If spot PTA prices eventually move toward 6200 RMB/ton, downstream cost increases will exceed 250 RMB/ton.
Market Dynamics: Tug-of-War Between Price Support and Demand
It is important to note that the pre-collection price is not the final settlement price, but rather a price guide from producers to downstream customers. Hengli's willingness to set a high pre-collection price reflects confidence in its production capacity advantages and industry influence. However, whether the market can accept this price ultimately depends on demand.
The textile industry is currently transitioning from the traditional off-season to the peak season. Downstream weaving mills have not yet fully recovered their operating rates, and raw material procurement is mainly for immediate needs. If spot PTA prices rise rapidly, downstream companies may adopt a wait-and-see approach, delaying purchases by consuming inventory. This supply-demand game will determine whether the pre-collection price can be realized.
Historically, there is often a gap between PTA pre-collection and final settlement prices. In the same period of 2025, a leading company also set a high August pre-collection price, but due to insufficient demand, the actual transaction price was eventually lowered by about 200 RMB/ton. Therefore, this 6200 RMB/ton pre-collection price is more of a price attitude than a final price.
