The electronic-grade fiberglass fabric market is welcoming a new entrant. Yongguan New Material recently signed an agreement with the Dongxiang District government in Jiangxi to invest 300 million yuan in a facility producing 2,000 tons of electronic-grade fiberglass fabric annually. While this volume is modest relative to the overall market, it carries significant strategic weight for the company, marking its transition from tape manufacturing to high-end electronic materials. The move comes at a critical juncture in the global electronics industry's structural upgrade.
Capacity Layout and Technical Foundation
The site selection in Dongxiang is no coincidence. Yongguan has operated in the region for 14 years, gaining deep insight into the local industrial ecosystem and policy environment. The Dongxiang district party secretary explicitly promised comprehensive support in land, labor, and energy, focusing on the new materials core track. This government-enterprise synergy model directly supports rapid project implementation and operational efficiency.
From a technical perspective, electronic-grade fiberglass fabric demands extremely high precision in weaving, tension control, and surface treatment. Yongguan has accumulated over 20 years of experience in precision weaving and sizing technology from its fiberglass tape and cloth tape businesses. These core competencies can be leveraged to produce electronic-grade fiberglass fabric. CEO Lv Xinmin noted at the signing ceremony that this is "an important layout to expand the differentiated high-end product matrix," indicating the company's technology reuse logic is validated.
Downstream Demand Drivers
Electronic-grade fiberglass fabric is primarily used in copper-clad laminates (CCL) for printed circuit boards (PCBs). End markets such as automotive electronics, 5G/6G communication infrastructure, and data center switches are experiencing sustained growth. These applications demand high-frequency, high-speed, and high-reliability PCBs, which in turn drive requirements for upstream electronic-grade fiberglass fabric in both quantity and quality.
Chinese Customs data shows the average import price of electronic-grade fiberglass fabric rose approximately 8% year-on-year in 2025, reflecting a structural supply gap for high-end products. Yongguan's entry is both market-driven and a rational choice amid the trend toward supply chain self-sufficiency. The planned 2,000-ton annual capacity, if fully utilized, could cover roughly 3% of domestic high-end demand, potentially moderating price volatility.
Ripple Effects on the Supply Chain
This project will have cascading effects on upstream raw material suppliers and downstream CCL manufacturers.
- For upstream fiberglass yarn suppliers: The new 2,000-ton annual demand will drive localized procurement, potentially fostering a small supporting cluster around Dongxiang.
- For CCL manufacturers: It provides an alternative to imports, with shorter lead times and cost advantages, especially given current geopolitical trade tensions.
- For competitors: Yongguan's entry may accelerate technological iteration and price competition in the electronic-grade fiberglass fabric industry, pushing existing players to improve yield rates and process stability.
