Yongguan New Material has placed a critical piece on the board in Dongxiang, Jiangxi. The listed company, known for tapes and cloth-based materials, announced a 300-million-yuan investment in an electronic-grade glass fabric project with an annual capacity of 2,000 tons. This is not a simple capacity expansion but a clear leap from industrial auxiliaries to core electronic information materials.
Background
Public data shows the project is located in Dongxiang District, Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, where Yongguan has operated for 14 years. The local government has pledged full support in land, labor, and energy, explicitly designating new materials as a core track to foster an industry pattern of 'leading enterprises driving, chains connecting, and clusters synergizing.' Dongxiang District Party Secretary Gong Huang made this commitment at the signing ceremony, signaling that local authorities are backing high-end material localization with substantive policy resources.
From a timing perspective, the global electronic information industry is at a critical structural upgrade phase. Application scenarios such as automotive electronics, 5G/6G communications, and data center switches continue to grow. Electronic-grade glass fabric, as the core reinforcing material for printed circuit boards (PCBs), is seeing rapid market expansion. China Customs data shows that over 40% of high-end electronic fabric was still imported in 2025, leaving significant room for domestic substitution.
Yongguan's investment is not unfounded. Chairman Lv Xinmin stated the project will leverage over 20 years of accumulated core technologies in precision weaving, sizing, tension control, surface treatment, and fiber processing. These processes, originally used for glass fiber tape and cloth-based tape production, are now being transferred to electronic-grade glass fabric, with technical feasibility validated internally for years.
Industry Impact
For the upstream supply chain, this project will directly drive demand for glass fiber yarn, chemical auxiliaries, and weaving equipment in Dongxiang and surrounding areas. While 2,000 tons per year is not enormous, electronic-grade products demand extremely high yarn uniformity, surface treatment precision, and cleanliness, forcing suppliers to upgrade quality control standards. This high-barrier demand will drive supply chain upgrades rather than simple volume addition.
Downstream, electronic glass fabric mainly flows to copper-clad laminate (CCL) and PCB manufacturers, eventually entering the supply chains of companies like Huawei, ZTE, and Apple. Yongguan's entry offers buyers an alternative to traditional suppliers like China Jushi and Taishan Fiberglass. Cost-wise, domestic electronic fabric is about 15%-20% cheaper than imported products, with faster logistics response—critical for PCB makers seeking supply chain resilience.
However, caution is warranted. The production process for electronic-grade glass fabric has high technical barriers, particularly in surface treatment with coupling agent coating uniformity and tension control precision, which directly affect dielectric performance in high-speed and high-frequency circuits. Whether Yongguan can stably meet IPC-4101E standard Dk/Df values during mass production remains to be seen. Industry data shows new domestic entrants typically require 12-18 months of yield ramp-up, facing risks of long customer certification cycles and high rejection rates.
