A 300 million yuan investment with an annual capacity of 2,000 tons of electronic-grade glass fabric—Yongguan New Material's latest project in Dongxiang, Jiangxi, pushes a traditional tape giant's technical expertise directly onto the high-performance electronic substrate table.
Background
Yongguan New Material has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Dongxiang district government in Fuzhou, Jiangxi, for an electronic-grade glass fabric project with a total investment of about 300 million yuan and a planned annual output of 2,000 tons. The choice of Dongxiang is no coincidence—the company has been rooted there for 14 years, with deep foundations in industrial land, skilled labor, and energy infrastructure. Dongxiang District Party Secretary Gong Huang explicitly stated at the signing ceremony that the district will provide comprehensive factor guarantees in land, labor, and energy, focusing on the new materials core track to build a development pattern of 'leading enterprise guidance, chain connectivity, and cluster synergy.'
From an industry perspective, electronic-grade glass fabric is a core reinforcing material for copper-clad laminates (CCL) and printed circuit boards (PCBs), directly serving high-growth scenarios such as automotive electronics, 5G/6G communication base stations, and data center switches. The global electronics information industry is at a structural upgrade node, where high-frequency and high-speed signal transmission imposes higher requirements on the dielectric properties and dimensional stability of substrates, widening the market gap for high-end electronic glass fabric.
Industry Impact
Yongguan's move essentially involves a high-value horizontal migration of core technologies accumulated in tape manufacturing—precision weaving, sizing, tension control, surface treatment, and fiber processing. The company has long been deeply involved in fiberglass tape and cloth-based tape, with mature understanding of glass fiber fabric processes, providing a 'low-cost leap' for electronic-grade products.
For Dongxiang district, this project marks a critical step from 'point-based introduction' to 'chain-based clustering' in the new materials industry. Dongxiang, historically dominated by traditional industries like textiles and food, is now building a vertical chain from glass fiber yarn to electronic fabric and downstream CCL by introducing companies like Yongguan that master core processes. For surrounding PCB clusters such as Jiujiang in Jiangxi and Huangshi in Hubei, Dongxiang is expected to become a supply node for upstream high-end glass fabric, forming cross-regional support.
For buyers, the domestic electronic glass fabric market has long been dominated by a few leading players. Yongguan's entry may add an option in terms of quality and delivery. However, electronic-grade products require extremely high cleanliness, uniformity, and stability. The yield ramp-up period for new production lines typically takes 6-12 months, so initial supply capacity may be limited.
