On August 5, the nylon POY (86D/24F semi-dull premium grade) market showed obvious regional divergence: three chemical fiber enterprises in Hai'an, Nantong, quoted prices concentrated at 13700-14100 CNY/ton, while an enterprise in Changshu, Suzhou, quoted 14200 CNY/ton. Although the price gap is only 100-500 CNY/ton, against a relatively stable raw material cost background, this divergence reveals subtle changes in competition patterns and cost transmission within the industrial belt.
Signals Behind Quotation Divergence
Hai'an, as an important production base for nylon POY in China, has a quotation range of 400 CNY/ton within the region. Jiahe Chemical Fiber offered a low of 13700 CNY/ton, while Zhongshan Synthetic Fiber insisted on 14100 CNY/ton. Such differences within the same area usually indicate variations in raw material inventory costs, equipment depreciation, and customer structures. Low-quoting enterprises may have lower raw material procurement costs or more flexible production scheduling, while high-quoting ones may focus on product quality stability or have locked long-term orders.
The 14200 CNY/ton quotation from Changshu Lianhua is 100 CNY/ton higher than the highest in Hai'an, reflecting additional pressure from labor, energy, and environmental costs in Suzhou. For downstream buyers, this is not only a price choice but also requires evaluating quality consistency, supply stability, and after-sales service. Especially when downstream demand for nylon has not fully recovered, the price gap could become a lever for customer switching.
Transmission Effects on Procurement and Foreign Trade
As a core raw material for weaving, warp knitting, and stretch fabrics, nylon POY price fluctuations directly affect grey fabric costs and fabric export competitiveness. The coexistence of low quotations in Hai'an and high in Changshu means buyers can achieve 2%-3% cost optimization through regional price comparison. However, caution is needed against quality risks behind low prices—some enterprises may adjust raw material ratios or post-treatment processes to cut costs, leading to fluctuations in dyeing uniformity and strength indicators.
For foreign trade enterprises, a stable RMB exchange rate and controllable raw material costs are key to securing orders. If POY procurement prices can stay in the 13700-14100 CNY/ton range, fabric export quotes will be more flexible, especially beneficial for orders from Southeast Asia and South America. However, note that concentrated quotations in Hai'an may lead to local overcapacity; if downstream orders fall short, POY prices may face downward pressure, so foreign trade enterprises should avoid long-term high-price lock-in contracts.
