A seemingly niche technological breakthrough is rewriting the technical roadmap of digital inkjet printing. On August 6, the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Conference in Jinan announced the 2025 provincial science and technology awards. The project led by Yuyue Home Textile, titled 'Development and Industrial Application of a Multi-Dimensional Collaborative Digital Inkjet Printing Quality and Efficiency Enhancement Technology System,' won the first prize. The core achievement is the first-ever revelation of the 'line-segment cluster' imaging mechanism for ink droplets, and the construction of the world's first 12-color rotary-screen enhanced high-speed digital inkjet printing production line. This is not just a corporate honor; it may mark a turning point for the printing and dyeing industry to reduce dependence on imports.
Technical Turning Point: From Dots to Line Segments, Imaging Logic Reconstructed
For a long time, digital inkjet printing has relied on the dot imaging theory derived from paper printing, where ink droplets form discrete dots on the substrate to reproduce patterns. This theory hits a bottleneck on textiles: fabric surfaces are rough and absorb ink unevenly, causing dot diffusion, blurred edges, poor product stability, and low production efficiency. The Yuyue team took a different approach, proposing the 'line-segment cluster' imaging concept—by controlling the spreading behavior of ink droplets on fabric, they form continuous line-segment clusters, enhancing image clarity and color saturation. This mechanism breaks the shackles of traditional theory and provides a new basis for the independent development of inkjet printing equipment and consumables.
Industry Impact: Filling Gaps, but Costs and Adaptation Need Attention
From an industry perspective, the significance of this technology extends beyond one production line. The collaboration with Qingdao University, Tiangong University, and other institutions validates the effectiveness of industry-university-research cooperation in the printing and dyeing field. More importantly, the project explicitly targets the long-standing pain point of 'high dependence on imports for core equipment and supporting consumables.' The completion of the world's first 12-color rotary-screen enhanced high-speed production line means that domestic equipment can now compete internationally in color performance and speed. For buyers, this implies that domestic high-speed printing machines may no longer be just 'cost-effective alternatives' but technically viable first choices. However, the adoption of new technology takes time, and initial equipment investment and consumable adaptation costs may be higher than traditional solutions. Buyers should assess their order structure and capacity needs to avoid blindly chasing novelty.
Policy and Region: Another Milestone in Shandong's Textile Innovation
The award at the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Conference reflects local government support for textile technology innovation. Yuyue Home Textile is based in Shandong, a province with a complete textile industry chain, covering chemical fiber, weaving, printing and dyeing, and home textiles. This project, led by Yuyue and involving research institutes and dyeing enterprises inside and outside the province, exemplifies regional collaborative innovation. For the textile industry in Shandong and nationwide, such breakthroughs help drive the green and intelligent transformation of the printing and dyeing segment, aligning with carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. Notably, Yuyue has previously won two national second prizes for science and technology progress; this latest provincial first prize indicates continuous accumulation in digital printing, providing a replicable technical path for the industry.
