On the textile map of northern Jiangsu, Touzao Town in Dongtai is trying to refresh outsiders' perception with a set of numbers: a project with a total investment of 100 million yuan and an annual output of 40 million meters of high-end dyeing and printing fabric has been fully commissioned recently. This is not a simple capacity addition but a signal of the local industry extending from weaving to dyeing—when cost advantages fade, whoever secures a position in high-value-added segments of the chain will hold the next round of pricing power.
Background
The project is led by Dongtai Yubo Textile Technology Co., Ltd., located at the north end of Park Avenue in Touzao Town. Public information shows that the project has a planned total investment of 100 million yuan and has introduced 130 sets of professional dyeing equipment, including washing machines, jig dyeing machines, pre-shrinking combined machines, and setting machines. Once fully operational, it will form an annual production scale of 40 million meters of high-end dyeing and printing fabric. The product positioning is clearly aimed at high-end apparel and home textiles, meaning downstream customers will have stricter requirements for color fastness, hand feel, and shrinkage rate, forcing the enterprise to invest more resources in process control.
It is noteworthy that the project party specifically mentioned it will "rely on Nantong's mature textile technology and market resource advantages" at the commissioning ceremony. This reveals an industrial geographic logic: Nantong, as a traditional textile hub, has deep dyeing technology accumulation and mature order channels, while Touzao Town in Dongtai has comparative advantages in land and labor costs. The division of labor between the two regions is shifting from loose product trade to closer production capacity co-building.
From a broader perspective, this project is also the result of Touzao Town's years of deep cultivation of the "weaving-dyeing" full chain. The town has long treated textiles as its core industry and has continuously and precisely attracted external high-quality projects. From January to July this year, the town's above-scale textile enterprises achieved cumulative sales revenue of 1.09 billion yuan, showing a solid industrial foundation. The injection of 40 million meters of capacity is expected to further amplify the cluster effect and attract more upstream and downstream supporting enterprises to locate nearby.
Industrial Impact
For buyers, what does this capacity release mean? First, it shortens the supply radius. Previously, high-end dyeing and printing fabric orders in northern Jiangsu often had to flow to southern Jiangsu or Zhejiang, with longer logistics cycles and higher communication costs. With local capacity landing, brand owners and garment factories now have a "nearby" option at the same quality level, significantly improving delivery flexibility.
Second, the high-end positioning determines its premium space. 40 million meters is not a small number, but if all are concentrated on conventional products, it is easy to fall into price wars. The project party emphasizes "high-end," indicating that its target customers are relatively less price-sensitive and care more about quality stability. This sends a signal to local small and medium textile enterprises: rather than fighting price battles in the low-end red ocean, it is better to leverage regional capacity upgrades to transform toward functional fabrics and differentiated home textile products.
For factories, the introduction of automated equipment has a demonstrative effect. The 130 sets of equipment cover key processes such as washing, jig dyeing, pre-shrinking, and setting, with a high degree of full-process automation, which helps reduce human-caused quality fluctuations and improve first-pass yield. Against the backdrop of tightening environmental regulations, the project party's commitment to strictly implement safety production and green environmental control requirements is not only a compliance bottom line but also a stepping stone into international brand supply chains.
From a regional competition perspective, Touzao's move may change the weight of the northern Jiangsu dyeing industry. In the past, dyeing capacity was highly concentrated in Shaoxing, Shengze, and other places, while northern Jiangsu mainly undertook the weaving segment. Now, with dyeing projects successively commissioned in Dongtai and other places, northern Jiangsu is expected to form a new node in high-end fabric supply, thereby driving the development of local supporting industries such as yarn, grey fabric, and auxiliaries. Of course, this requires time to verify—capacity ramping, customer certification, and environmental acceptance are all necessary paths.
