On August 14, three textile mills in Weifang, Shandong, quietly opened a 600 yuan per ton price gap for their public quotes on 32S ring-spun polyester yarn. The figure itself is modest, but it is enough to make buyers re-examine current negotiation space—for the same specification and origin, quotes ranging from 11,600 to 12,200 yuan per ton indicate that market competition is far more intense than surface numbers suggest.

Behind the Quote Divergence

The three quotes all refer to 32S ring-spun, first-grade, natural white, large-chemical-fiber polyester yarn, a standard specification with strong liquidity in the market. Weifang Runfengda quoted 11,600 yuan/ton, Guanjie Textile quoted 12,200 yuan/ton, and Honghua Textile came in between at 12,100 yuan/ton. Although the gap does not exceed the usual fluctuation range, such a clear gradient on the same day in the same region at least indicates that sellers' expectations for the future are not aligned.

From the cost side, PTA and MEG prices have been relatively stable recently, and the cost support for polyester staple fiber has not swung violently. Therefore, the price gap mostly stems from differences in inventory levels and capital recovery pressure. Enterprises quoting lower prices often face greater inventory turnover pressure and tend to trade price for volume; those quoting higher may value profit margins more or have already locked in some orders.

For buyers, this divergence means a clearer reference point at the negotiation table. For the same quality yarn, the difference between the lowest and highest quotes is 600 yuan, which has limited impact per ton but can affect the gross margin of a batch order when purchasing in volume.

Industrial Transmission and Purchasing Rhythm

As an important textile industrial belt in Shandong, Weifang's polyester yarn quotes often serve as a barometer for surrounding regions. The divergence among the three mills may signal that downstream weaving enterprises' purchasing rhythms are splitting—some have entered a restocking cycle, while others are still waiting, leading to different order pressure for suppliers.

Historically, when quote gradients widen, it is often an early signal of a shift from a seller's market to a buyer's market. If downstream demand remains weak, lower quotes may drag the overall transaction center downward; conversely, if raw material prices move unexpectedly, higher quotes could become the starting point for a new round of increases. Therefore, raw material price trends and weaving operating rates over the next two weeks will determine whether this 600-yuan gap is a temporary phenomenon or the beginning of a trend.

For foreign trade enterprises, exchange rate fluctuations and shipping delays already squeeze profits, and frequent fluctuations in yarn quotes further complicate cost calculations. It is advisable to link yarn prices to raw material indices in long-term contracts, or adopt a batch-locking strategy to avoid risks from single-day quote volatility.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - Anchor on the lowest quote and ask higher-priced suppliers for quality certificates or delivery guarantees to negotiate a compromise price. - Pay attention to the price difference between large-chemical and medium-chemical fibers to ensure the yarn is truly "large-chemical" quality and avoid substitution. - Place small trial orders to verify yarn stability before committing to large volumes at low prices.

For Foreign Trade Enterprises - Include raw material price adjustment clauses in quotation contracts to prevent yarn price fluctuations from eroding profits. - Use the current price gap window to establish backup relationships with multiple suppliers, enhancing negotiation flexibility. - Track quote dynamics in the Weifang industrial belt as a reference benchmark for order quotations to improve competitiveness.
