Green transformation is no longer a solo act for large enterprises. Latest data from the China National Textile and Apparel Council shows that nearly 500 specialized and innovative enterprises have been cultivated, with 91% having invested in green initiatives and 43% offering low-carbon products. This means that SMEs, which account for over 90% of the industry, are becoming the main force for carbon reduction through the specialized and innovative path.
Behind the Data: Green Investment Boom, Carbon Management Chill
A special survey of 148 valid questionnaires from 2024-2025 paints a mixed picture: 91.18% of enterprises have engaged in clean energy or equipment upgrades, and the share with low-carbon products rose to 42.65%. However, only about 30% have conducted carbon inventories, and over 70% lack dual-carbon roadmaps. Weak carbon management and short-term targets are the most prominent gaps.
This "heavy investment, light management" tendency poses potential risks for buyers and foreign trade clients—products without systematic carbon accounting may face green barriers in markets like the EU. If companies do not strengthen carbon management at the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan, their early green equipment investments may not translate into order premiums.
Technology Landing: From a Grass to a Machine
The Xinxiang event showcased two replicable technical paths. First, Xinxiang Chemical Fiber's juncao fiber, a global first using grass pulp for spinning, reduces wood consumption and restores wasteland ecology, with antibacterial traceability certification. Second, Xinxiang Longxu New Materials' intelligent multi-fiber blending equipment achieves ±0.5% blending error, overcoming the 3%-6% accuracy limitations that cause color differences, and has been adopted by leading mills like Yueda and Huamao.
The commonality: using innovation to solve both cost and environmental issues. Juncao fiber alleviates raw material supply shortages, while the intelligent blending equipment reduces defect rates in high-end fabric production. For mills, these technologies are not extra burdens but levers for profitability.
Industrial Impact: Specialized Innovators as Hubs for Collaborative Innovation
Notably, the 735 specialized and innovative enterprises have an average operating history of 19 years, with over 50% concentrated in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shandong, covering the entire chain from chemical fibers to dyeing and industrial textiles, with many high-end materials achieving import substitution. These enterprises are becoming hubs for collaborative carbon reduction across the supply chain—building industry-academia-research platforms to transform lab technologies into production applications is the core theme of this event.
Vice President Liang Pengcheng's three expectations—innovation-driven, collaborative linkage, and seizing market opportunities—clarify the role of specialized innovators: they are both developers of green technologies and connectors for technology landing. Zero-carbon factory construction is highlighted as a key direction, requiring enterprises to first map their carbon baseline, then implement upgrades with new processes and equipment, and finally establish a full-chain low-carbon management system.
