While China's large-scale home textile enterprises saw only 0.96% revenue growth in H1, Haining's Xucun cluster posted a striking 9.2% expansion. This contrast was mirrored at the 35th Haining Home Textile Expo, where first-day visitor traffic jumped 22.1% year-on-year. In a market plagued by weak demand, how does a county-level cluster manage to outperform? The answer may lie not in selling fabric, but in redefining its value.
Industrial Foundation: Four Decades from Workshops to Cluster
Haining's strength is rooted in Xucun's four-decade-old complete supply chain. Starting from a single thread, the region now hosts a "north home textiles, south apparel, central digital" layout, with a national market share of over 35% for home textile products. More than 2,500 source factories, 250,000 square meters of exhibition space, and its status as a core jacquard fabric production area form Haining's hard power. But hard power is just an entry ticket. This year, Haining was named to the MIIT "China Consumer Brand" list, and its trade city was selected as a provincial pilot for professional market transformation—recognition of its leap from "manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing." Notably, this upgrade is not merely equipment replacement but a reconstruction of the industry's narrative: from selling fabric to selling spatial solutions, from price competition to value definition.
Transformation Signals: Expo Role Shifts from Trading to Defining
The most noteworthy aspect of this expo is not scale but functional positioning. Among six zones, the smart shading and window accessory area showcased electric tracks, eco-friendly coatings, and system solutions, redefining curtains as integrated systems of function, aesthetics, and intelligence. The intangible heritage zone introduced silk, celadon, and other Oriental elements into home scenes, extending fabric narratives to lifestyle. A clearer signal is the debut of the 2026/27 home textile color trend zone. Four trend themes—from "Earthly Rhythm" healing tones to "Luminous Weave" minimalist aesthetics, from "Cross-Domain Art" dramatic styles to "East-West Harmony" fusion—indicate Haining's ambition to command industry discourse. When an expo starts issuing trends, it is no longer a mere distribution hub but a trendsetter upstream. For buyers, this shift means moving from fabric-by-meter purchases to trend-based solution packages. For factories, pure order-manufacturing days are fading; participating in trend R&D and offering design value-added services will become the new competitive divide.
Supportive Pillars: University Collaboration and Design Competitions
Transformation requires substance. Haining's long-term partnership with Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, including the Fashion Fabric Innovation Center and Textile Intangible Heritage Creative Center since 2020, and last year's signing of the Haining Fashion Industry Technology Innovation R&D Center project, bridges the gap from lab to production line. Such industry-academia integration provides sustained talent and technical support for original design. Meanwhile, the "Haining Home Textile Cup" design competition, now in its 24th edition, continues to cultivate young design talent. These seemingly intangible initiatives actually stockpile the cluster's scarcest resource—creative capital. When manufacturing capabilities homogenize, design-defining capacity becomes the moat of differentiation.
