The market penetration of 20D and below ultra-fine denier spandex is rising at a visible pace, yet only a limited number of domestic manufacturers can stably produce this specification. On August 18, Xinxiang Chemical Fiber officially broke ground on phase two of its 100,000-ton functional spandex project, adding 50,000 tons of capacity entirely dedicated to 20D and below products, pushing the capacity race in high-end fine-denier spandex to a new level.
Event Background
The project is located in Xinxiang, Henan Province. Phase two mainly involves constructing a 50,000-ton spandex main production workshop with a building area of 65,000 square meters, along with auxiliary production and living facilities. All production lines will be used to produce functional fine-denier spandex of 20D and below, adopting continuous polymerization dry spinning technology. The core equipment is the world's unique 200-spinneret spinning channel, with digitalized and intelligent process control, equipped with automatic doffing and intelligent sorting systems.
Phase one is progressing smoothly and is expected to be operational by the end of this year. The entire project is a strategic layout for the company's 15th Five-Year Plan, deeply integrating the concepts of 5G and industrial internet, aiming to build a benchmark modern factory that is intelligent, digitalized, and energy-efficient. In terms of power supply, the project adopts high-efficiency computer rooms and AI technology to achieve precise energy distribution.
The timing of this capacity release is intriguing. Currently, the domestic spandex industry's supply-demand pattern continues to optimize, with low-end capacity gradually being phased out, while demand for ultra-fine denier, functional, and green high-end products continues to expand. 20D and below fine-denier spandex, with its excellent skin-friendly feel, delicate elasticity, and strong adaptability, is seeing increasing penetration in downstream fields such as sportswear, high-end home textiles, and functional intimate apparel.
Industry Impact
From an industrial belt perspective, Xinxiang Chemical Fiber's move is not isolated. As an important pole in central China's textile industry, Henan has been continuously strengthening its chain in high-end textile new materials in recent years. The implementation of this project directly fills the gap in the regional high-end textile new material industry chain and provides more stable high-end raw material supply for surrounding fabric enterprises. For buyers, this means that the domestic substitution process for high-end fine-denier spandex will accelerate, and products below 20D that previously relied on imports are expected to gain more initiative in price and delivery.
From a technical route perspective, the 200-spinneret spinning channel is a rare piece of equipment in the industry, with single-line capacity and efficiency far exceeding traditional equipment. This is not just an expansion of scale but a qualitative change in production methods—digital precision detection and intelligent production management greatly improve the consistency of fine-denier product quality. For downstream weaving enterprises, this means more stable elasticity performance of fabrics and a potential reduction in defect rates.
It is worth noting that this capacity layout resonates with the industry's high prosperity. Currently, the spandex industry is in an upward cycle, with low-end capacity clearing and high-end products in short supply. Phase two of Xinxiang Chemical Fiber's project captures this window, helping to enhance the company's share and voice in the high-end segment. However, it should also be noted that the concentrated release of high-end capacity may bring temporary supply pressure, and the supply-demand balance over the next 18 months will be a key observation point.
