A three-day fabric exhibition in Seoul has sent signals far beyond its booth space. From August 19 to 21, the 4th China Textile City Seoul Textile & Accessory Exhibition concluded with 49 Keqiao companies presenting over 10,000 fabric samples, resulting in nearly 100 intended cooperation deals and over 20,000 professional visitors. Set against the backdrop of warming China-Korea economic ties, these numbers represent more than just orders—they signal a realignment of the East Asian fashion supply chain.

Data Behind the Exhibition

Looking at the product mix, Keqiao firms did not simply display a broad range. Knitted, woven, recycled eco-friendly, functional, and original printed fabrics were highlighted, with natural cotton, green recycled, sports functional, washed-down, cotton-nylon blends, and embroidery as frequent keywords. These categories precisely match the sourcing profiles of Korean women's wear, casual wear, fast fashion, and outdoor apparel, showing that Keqiao's understanding of the Korean market has shifted from broad to precise.

Notably, green sustainable fabrics emerged as the strongest highlight. As ESG principles move from slogans to procurement checklists in Korea, demand for certified fabrics like GRS and RCS continues to rise. Several Keqiao firms brought certified products and drew significant buyer attention. This means environmental certification is now a threshold for entering mid-to-high-end Korean brands, a clear warning for suppliers who have not yet invested in certification.

Industrial Response and Supply Chain Transmission

Before the exhibition, the Keqiao delegation visited leading Korean fashion brands such as Hyundai and Donggwang International, engaging with procurement and design teams to research color trends, print directions, sustainability standards, and small-batch quick-response needs. This pre-show research allowed exhibitors to position their products clearly rather than relying on luck. Shaoxing Fanda Textile showcased T/R yarn-dyed fabrics, while Ye Shuai Textile presented washed and cotton-nylon new products, both responding quickly to market insights.

Feedback from the floor confirmed that the physical nature of fabric remains irreplaceable. The hand-feel, drape, texture, and finishing techniques cannot be fully conveyed through online images or text. Many exhibitors noted that face-to-face interactions capture genuine sourcing needs that are easily missed online while building trust faster. For buyers, touching samples, discussing processes, and negotiating lead times are far more reassuring than remote transactions. This effective reduction of trust costs is why overseas exhibitions remain essential.

Practical Value for Buyers and Exporters

For Korean brands, the Keqiao pavilion means a shorter supply chain radius and more flexible development cycles. Buying teams from Lotte Fashion, JAJU, GSGM, and PLAYBACK visited booths to inspect and cut samples, directly evaluating small-batch quick-response capabilities. If Keqiao firms can consistently meet this pace, they can upgrade from mere fabric suppliers to design and development partners.

For Keqiao exporters, participation goes far beyond on-site orders. Dense interaction with overseas buyers serves as an efficient market research exercise. Information on trends, pain points, and certification requirements flows back to inform product development and overseas strategy. As one exhibitor said, the sample requests and quotations received laid a foundation for entering the Korean market and brought fresh ideas for product development.

For Buyers - Prioritize Keqiao suppliers with GRS, RCS, or similar certifications to reduce compliance risk - Leverage pre-show research to lock in fabrics aligned with Korean color and print trends - For small-batch quick-response needs, focus on exhibitors with stock or rapid sampling capabilities

For Exporters - Treat overseas exhibitions as market research windows; systematically record feedback to feed R&D - Invest early in eco-certifications and functional fabric development to match Korean ESG procurement trends - Follow up promptly with sampling clients after the show; offer digital catalogs or simple matchmaking services to boost conversion
